Will diagnosing you with ED make it go away?

August 28, 2017

Psychological erectile dysfunction is more common than you might think. Luckily, a recent study demonstrated that a great number of men with psychological erectile dysfunction have stopped experiencing this affliction immediately after being diagnosed with the condition. The research published on the Asian Journal of Andrology.
Whilst erectile dysfunction has a physical cause, psychological erectile dysfunction responds to emotional or mental causes. Men suffering from psychogenic erectile dysfunction still experience normal erections whilst they’re asleep and when they wake up. However, they have trouble trying to get or maintain an erection during sex. This is not uncommon, even if men with the condition much rather not talk about it, especially if they are in their younger years, thinking this is a problem that only affects older men. Nevertheless, a 2013 study published on the Journal of Sexual Medicine, showed that one out every 4 men look for ED treatment before they reach 40 years old.
There are many causes for psychological erectile dysfunction from depression to stress and from anxiety to romantic problems, and in mos cases there’s a correlation that generates a “hen or egg” kind of problem as depression can cause erectile dysfunction and erectile dysfunction can cause depression too. The same happens with anxiety and other performance related concerns.
After studying 285 men diagnosed with psychogenic erectile dysfunction, almost 32% of them spontaneously showed remission after being diagnosed. Further, a few interesting links emerged from these apparently miraculous remission cases. Those men who faced the diagnosis with resignations or somewhat of a happy attitude towards the idea of psychological erectile dysfunction experimented an immediate recovery. Also, those men who received the support from understanding, nonchalant and cooperative partners regarding their erectile dysfunction diagnosis, experienced the instant recovery. The other spontaneous remission group consisted of older men who live with their partners who experienced the recovery as soon as they were diagnosed.
The discovery that erectile dysfunction has its roots in the mind, means that it’s not permanent and rather treatable which serves as an “instantaneous cure” for many men diagnosed with psychogenic erectile dysfunction. Although other men suffering from psychological erectile dysfunction take longer to recover, once they learn the cause of their problem is not physical, they recover in full once they’ve taken the necessary actions to treat the underlying cause of their PED, whether it is therapy, counsel or even a well deserved vacation.
